What is TPS? - What is TPS?
Well first off shame on you if you are in the world of telesales or telemarketing or even direct marketing and you do not know what it is. But for those of you that don't this article is for you.
TPS stands for Telephone Preference Services. It is an opt out service for individuals or companies who do not wish to receive unsolicited phone calls from companies or telemarketers looking to sell you something or offer you a service or product of any kind, no sales & marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make sales & marketing calls to telephone numbers registered with the TPS, doing so can land them with fines of £5000 or more per phone number called.
TPS online states “Under Government legislation introduced on 1st May 1999 and replaced on 11th December 2003 by the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, it is unlawful to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to individuals who have indicated that they do not want to receive such calls”.
How can you make sure you are TPS compliant?
Well there are a few ways:
- Only buy TPS filtered data and make sure you refresh this at least once a month with a data cleaning agency.
- Apply a TPS filter to your phone lines, this stops you calling numbers that have been TPS registered and the filters are updated every month protecting you from TPS fines.
- Register with the TPS and use their online system for filtering the telephone numbers you call you can also get a TPS license which shows you are TPS compliant (but doesn't protect you against fines).
